Can AI make you a more human leader? Dive with us into AI strategy for leadership with podcast guest Geoff Woods, author of the AI-Driven leader.

Still using AI just as a productivity shortcut to clean up emails or summarise long documents? If so, you could be leaving commercial value (and peace of mind) on the table. It’s time to talk about AI strategy for leadership.

Whether you’re founding your business or scaling up, it’s easy to see the advantages of AI as a digital assistant. But by following a few simple steps, it can become a transformative tool – and it’s not just about automation; it’s more about stripping away what doesn’t light you up so you can return to doing what you love.

In the latest episode of the Sparks for Growth podcast, we talk to Geoff Woods, internationally renowned author of the AI-Driven Leader. He shares something every founder needs to know: it’s entirely possible to use AI to scale with purpose – but only if you use it to amplify your judgement, not replace it.

But how do you do this?

Based on what we learned from the conversation, here are four ways you can use AI as a strategic partner to grow your bottom line while reclaiming your life.

1. Stay in the driving seat

How easy is it to make AI the thought leader? Very easy if you’re a passive partner, taking its word verbatim. So take charge and lead the conversation. That said, it doesn’t mean you can’t ask AI to interview you; after all, who knows the context better than you do?

‘Your brain is a muscle. When you use it, it gets stronger; otherwise it’ll atrophy. The mistake is making AI the thought leader and becoming the thought partner. It should be the other way around.’ Geoff says.

AI should be there to relieve the burden of numbers and data crunching, so let it handle the heavy lifting. By freeing up your mental bandwidth, you secure the quiet thinking time required for authentic, heart-led, and highly strategic decision-making. The true commercial edge lies in taking a creative approach to AI strategy for leadership.

Does leading the conversation mean you need extensive training? Not according to Woods.

2. Weaponise the CRIT framework to build an executive multiplier

Surprisingly, you do not need an advanced degree in computer science to lead an AI-driven organisation. In fact, technical proficiency and the specific LLM you use matter way less than you think.

Geoff introduces the CRIT framework, a simple, four-step process designed to evolve your strategic thinking. It’s so practical that it doesn’t require complex software to start.

‘It all sounds very advanced but it started with two sticky notes and a Sharpie,’ Geoff states.

To prove his point, Geoff tells the story of his own administrative assistant. By applying the CRIT system, she transformed her role from basic administration to that of Executive Multiplier. She began building custom AI agents to manage complex operations, proving that it’s possible to empower your team to adopt AI thoughtfully. Driving expansion without losing the company’s soul.

3. Use AI to find your answer to the ultimate growth question

As a CEO, 20% of your activities create 80% of your business value. The rest is often noise that leaves you feeling exhausted and disconnected. If you want to use AI to optimise that vital 20%, you need to feed it the right input.

So, the ultimate strategic question for any business owner is this: What is one of the biggest problems you are facing that, if we could solve it, would unlock a new level of growth?

This question transforms AI into an interactive strategic partner. Deep thought processes interrogate assumptions, stress-test your business model and uncover previously unimaginable solutions to drive revenue. All the while, you can focus your energy on the high-reward work.

4. Move from simple access to true adoption

Growth-crippling gaps open up when leaders mistake access to tech for true adoption in leadership, alignment and execution.

‘I don’t think AI adoption is the goal of any company,’ Geoff states. We all want to drive growth; we all want a better business and to create a better quality of life… but if the executive team isn’t truly wielding this as an elevating partner to affect how they think and lead, you’re spinning your wheels. That’s not leadership; it’s hypocrisy.’ Geoff states.

For leaders who are unsure, he recommends using his CRIT framework strategically every day for 30 days because adoption relies on empowered leadership. Your unique role is to inspire your team, model AI-driven thinking and ensure that the tech serves your core values and goals.

Who will you become when you finally have the space to lead?

At Ignium, we believe that scaling the value of your business should be about having:

  • More time.
  • Less stress.
  • More money.
  • More fun.

If your current strategy is costing you your health, family time or your alignment with purpose, it’s not working for you, and it’s time for something different. Something like Geoff’s AI-driven model.

The point is, AI doesn’t have to strip away your individuality. Instead, a considered AI strategy for leadership sheds the heavy operational layers weighing you down. By mastering the skills that will always hold value (like discernment, empathy, and deep connection), you become a whole, amplified human. This brings out the best in you for your leadership and business growth.

AI can only enhance you, it won’t replace you. ‘Focus on mastering the skills that are so valuable, they will serve you no matter where you go’, Geoff says.

We wholeheartedly agree.
