Anxious that it’s June and you’re not on track to meet your business goals this year? We share 5 powerful ways to get yourself back in the driving seat
As we slip into June, it’s natural to reflect on the goals we set at the beginning of the year. If this brings you a wave of disappointment or frustration, maybe it’s time to recalibrate.
Drawing from invaluable insights shared by executive coach Dana Theus on the Sparks for Growth podcast, we explore five ways you can overcome the mental roadblocks, redefine success and pick up the pace again.
1. Scale yourself
When people talk about scaling, they often mean expanding the team, stepping up production or breaking new ground. But organisational growth is not the only way forward. Many solo professionals and entrepreneurs find higher fulfilment by scaling themselves.
Scaling yourself means increasing your personal value, refining your expertise and maximising your efficiency. It shifts the focus from managing a massive team to mastering your own output. For solo entrepreneurs, this shift requires an overhaul of how you charge for your time, transitioning from hourly billing to value-based pricing. This is the only way to boost your income without burning out.
2. Overcome founder’s syndrome
What’s founder’s syndrome? It’s a psychological hurdle that arises when the visionary who conceived the initial brilliant idea (you) is suddenly pressed to step up and become an operational leader.
Moving into this role requires an entirely new job description and identity – not a mean feat. It forces you to transition from doing the work to leading it, and this evolution can feel terrifying because it challenges your comfort zone. However, transitioning into leadership becomes far less daunting when you have an experienced external partner by your side: someone who believes in your vision and can guide you through the growing pains of executive maturity.
3. Redefine success on your own terms
Developing your own definition of success unlocks freedom and power. We all have internal and external sources of joy and fulfilment, and because of cultural expectations, these are likely to differ between men and women. But nothing is set in stone.
When you align your business goals with your personal truths, you eliminate the friction that can cause mid-year burnout.
4. Rewrite your internal narratives
Is there truth in the stories we tell ourselves and each other? There are things we can all do to challenge the grand narratives we pass on to the next generation and the tiny but powerful stories within.
5. Harness the power of self-compassion
True development (whether personal, professional or business) cannot happen without radical self-compassion. Otherwise, the deeper work that builds stable outcomes won’t happen because we all do and say what we do for a reason – and to leave this unexplored is to leave opportunities on the table.
Ready to shift the mid-year blues and get further, faster (while having more fun)?
