How many red Minis have you seen today? ‘What does this have to do with opportunities for growth?’ you may ask.
Think – when you see a red Mini, suddenly they’re everywhere.
One of our team members bought one a few weeks ago and now, it’s all they see. This got us thinking about business – in particular, focus. It’s strange that when we’re centred on our goals, we seem to see more opportunities.
Maybe they were there all along, just out of sight?
So if you want to see more of what you want (and less of what you don’t) here are three habits you can start today:
- Filter the news. We can make judgments about what we choose to read, watch and listen to. That doesn’t mean that we ignore or fail to empathise with what’s going on in the world but we’re more likely to have a positive impact if we’re focused on where we want to go and the change we want to see.
- Look back to look forward. One of the advantages of regularly writing your goals and checking progress is that you can look back and see how far you’ve come. It’s good to dig out your previous strategic plans, journals and notebooks once in a while to remind yourself that you have what it takes and yes, you can do difficult things.
- Like attracts like so seek out those who lift you up. You’ll meet lots of other entrepreneurs on your journey, some you’ll gel with, others you won’t. Whatever you think, listen to their war stories when they show you their battle scars. Take interest in what got them there and when something inspires you, make a note of it.
Putting on your good goggles doesn’t mean you won’t sometimes see hardship or come up against obstacles but it’ll help you to keep focus on what really matters and what you have control over.
And just like red Minis, you’ll see the opportunities for growth.
Of course it helps to have a fellow red Mini spotter alongside. We love it when a client shifts up a gear and the process runs like it’s on wheels. So please call Kerry or Phil if you’d like to talk to one of our coaches about your journey and where you’re burning to go next.
