Tiny Sparks: Sprint to spring – what’s holding you back?

Last week you had a chance to stop and reflect on what’s going right in your business and what you’d like to work even better. How are you feeling about what this revealed for you? What skills do you need? What skills do you wish you had? Where’s your mindset? How do you see yourself? […]

Last week you had a chance to stop and reflect on what’s going right in your business and what you’d like to work even better. How are you feeling about what this revealed for you?

  • What skills do you need?
  • What skills do you wish you had?
  • Where’s your mindset? How do you see yourself?

Do you feel like some of these things are out of your control or even out of your reach?

This week’s question isn’t an easy one.

  • What’s holding me back?

We won’t get anywhere without self-leadership. This spirit of responsibility and accountability asks us to realistically look at the factors and narratives at play around us. There will always be some reason why we can’t move forward: whether this is our boss, the weather or the world stage.

How can we flip this story? How many of these barriers to success are truly immovable? Sometimes the things that stop us are actually in our head. This is why self-responsibility and self-accountability are so empowering.

Think about the word responsibility and break it down – response-ability. Are we reacting or intentionally responding? As Viktor Frankl says, between stimulus and response there’s a space.

Your two tasks for the week

Take time out to think about:

  • What kind of mindset do you have? Is it fixed or is it inclined to growth? If you can’t grow, how can you expect your business to?
  • Often we stay stuck out of fear. We blame others for our lack of success but to what extent is this true? How can you step out of this way of thinking and challenge yourself?

With so much doom and gloom around in the media, what can we do to turn this narrative into one of hope and transformation? It starts with us because life is what we make it. It’s all in the mindset.

After you’ve completed the task, look back and ask:

  • What have you noticed?
  • What have you learned?
  • What is your next step?

Make it work for you

It’s really important to be 100% onboard with this part of the process. Our fears aren’t there to be ignored, shelved or to hold us back – they’re important signposts to what needs to change in our lives. They’re there to show us the way to improvement and growth.

So what are your fears telling you?
